While, I suspect, most of us were still sleeping, Pete Givan and Adele O’Dowd were out in Norwood Park leading a bird walk to do a New Year’s Day count and introducing participants to the trees in the Park.

Pete reports that they spied 20 species during the one mile 8:00 walk including 14 blue jays, 12 Dark-eyed Juncos, 7 American Crows, and 2 Fish Crows. See below for his complete list.

Among the trees that Adele pointed out were American Elm, Sycamore, Sawtooth Oak, American Sweet Gum, Eastern White Pine, River Birch and a huge Willow Oak which is the biggest and oldest tree in the Park. You can take your own tour of the trees using Adele’s map.
